Klettur Youth League – the adventures begin here!
The Klettur Youth Club was founded on November 8, 2005 by members of the Suðurnes Rescue Team and has been a vibrant and active club ever since. The club is intended for teenagers in 9th and 10th grade – 14 to 16 years old – who want to learn, grow and participate in adventurous work with a purpose.
During the youth department's meetings and trips, participants have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of SAR work – for example , first aid, navigation, tourism, search techniques and sea rescue. Great emphasis is placed on cooperation, trust and teamwork , which strengthens both individuals and the group as a whole.
Meetings are varied and lively – sometimes with education, sometimes with exercises, practical tasks or fun games. They take place either outdoors or indoors, depending on the weather and the topic at hand. Therefore, everyone is encouraged to come dressed for the weather and with a flashlight in their bag.
In addition to weekly meetings on Thursday evenings, there are regular trips and events – from short day trips to weekend getaways. Some of these events are annual regulars, while others change from year to year.
Every other year, the highlight of the work is the National Youth League Championship , a five-day outing where young people from all over the country come together to get to know each other, learn and have fun in a unique atmosphere.
The Klettur Youth Department also contributes to raising funds for the Suðurnes Rescue Team – with an active and responsible role in both fireworks sales and sales of Neyðarkall. The fireworks sales are particularly noteworthy, where the youth department plays a key role with great ambition and organization.
